Jet Harris MBE 1939-2011

Jet Harris MBE 6 July 1939 – 18 March 2011 Jet Harris MBE, who helped pioneer British rock 'n' Roll as bassist with The Shadows has passed away aged 71 after battling throat cancer. Born Terence Harris, he received the nickname 'Jet' due to his prowess as a sprinter at school.

Smiley Culture 1962-2011

Reggae and UK rap pioneer David David Emmanuel aka Smiley Culture died at his home following a police raid on 15 March 2011. Born David Emmanuel in 1962, he attended Tulse Hill School in south London, gaining the nickname "Smiley" there.

British Music Abroad hosts SXSW party for UK songwriters

UK songwriters and composers will gather in Texas this Friday at the 25th South By South West (SXSW) showcase to celebrate British music overseas. The party has been organised by British Music Abroad – a partnership between the UK Trade and Industry (UKTI) body, PRS for Music Foundation, Wales Arts International and Arts Council England.
