Aim for America 2011

Independent music body Aim and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) will focus on digital industries during this year’s US trade mission, and are inviting delegates to apply for funding to finance their visit. The mission, which takes place on 20 June, seeks to promote lasting links between the UK and US music industries to ensure the prosperity of British music abroad.

Music royalties dip but payments to members still strong

PRS for Music has reported a 1% fall in the collection of royalties for 2010 to £611.2m, but the royalty collection society have still managed to keep royalty payments to its members at almost the same rate as 2009.

Seminar: Soundalikes, Parody and Plagiarism

A BASCA seminar that takes place in the PRS for Music Boardroom on Thursday 31 March will look at how to stay clear of the rocks of plagiarism, even when instructed to sail close to the wind by a producer or director. Other elephant traps lie in the area of deliberate soundalikes, or where the specific aim of the composition is to parody an original.

Loleatta Holloway 1946 – 2011

Soul singer Loleatta Holloway has died aged 64 from heart failure. Chicago-born Holloway began her career singing gospel music with her mother in the Holloway Community Singers. After a few minor single releases and appearances in stage shows, the singer signed with the Atlanta-based Aware record label where she released two albums: 1973's Loleatta and Cry to Me in 1975.
