A new rehearsal space is to be set up in Tottenham by Haringey Council and the Beggars Group as part of the UK Music Skill Academy.

The space will be one of 14 in a new network of rehearsal rooms developed via the initiative.

It is aimed at finding and supporting new musical talent from the area, particularly following the riots of 2011.

David Lammy, Labour MP for the area, said: ‘This new rehearsal space in Tottenham is a fantastic way of bringing the community together and helping to develop our new music stars of tomorrow. It also shows the music industry has a commitment to invest in talented kids from this area, which has produced an array of stars ranging from Chipmunk to Adele.’

Paul Redding, Beggars Chief Executive Group, added: ‘By giving young people a safe environment to write, produce, perform and develop their music skills we hope we can help in some small way to rebuild a community that was badly affected by events a couple of summers ago.’

New artists using the rehearsal space will also receive mentoring from music industry professionals as well as workshops and performances.
