Judith Weir CBE, British composer and Master of the Queen’s Music, and organist Thomas Trotter are hosting a free Choir and Organ Composition Workshop.
Taking place 10 September at St George’s, Hanover Square, London, the workshop is open to all and will offer insight into compositional techniques for the organ.
Seven scores have been submitted for the pair to go through - they are Ben Comeau’s Cordes à tension, Rob Crehan’s Hymn to the Martyr, Andrew Kirk’s Ostinato 45, David Loxley-Blount’s Limadie meets London, Miriam Mackie’s Kept Burning, Christian Morris’s Warum sollt ich and Elizabeth Winters’ Evening Voluntary.
Commenting, Judith Weir said: ‘We have received an interesting and varied group of scores, some by composers already known to the new music community, others not yet so well-known (to me at least!). In almost every case the music has been well-presented and literate.
‘Composers vary about how many organ-specific details and registrations they include in the score - this will, I’m sure, be a discussion point in the workshop - but most seem to have imagined the geography of the instrument well, even if they aren’t organists.’

Earlier in the year, Judith received the Ivors Classical Music Award. Other winners of the awards included Jimmy Napes, Hozier and Ed Sheeran.
