James Blake has been awarded this year’s Mercury Music Prize for his second album Overgrown.

The 25 year-old singer songwriter beat the likes of favourites Laura Mvula and Arctic Monkeys to take this year’s prize.

Overgrown was released by Polydor back in April and debuted at number eight in the UK album charts.

His self-titled debut album was nominated back in 2011 but lost out to PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake.

James was presented with his £20,000 prize at an awards ceremony at London’s Roundhouse in Camden.

Meanwhile, Official Charts Company statistics showed that Rudimental had enjoyed the biggest sales spike since the shortlist was announced. The Hackney-dance act saw sales of their album Home rise by 29,000. Read the full story on the sales boost provided by a nomination.
