Ellie Goulding scores first number one

UK singer songwriter Ellie Goulding has scored her first number one with new single Burn.

UK singer songwriter Ellie Goulding has scored her first number one with new single Burn.

The 26 year-old artist, who is originally from Hertfordshire, took the top spot after knocking off Miley Cyrus’ We Can’t Stop.

Burn is taken from her latest album Halcyon and sold 117,000 copies in the last seven days. It beat second place Wake Me Up by by Avicii 40,000 copies.

Over the last three years, the singer songwriter has enjoyed ten UK top 40 singles including Burn and two top five albums - 2010’s Lights and Halcyon from last year.

Ellie said: ‘It means the world to me to be number one at the moment. It was always my dream to have a UK number one single, and it's been a long time coming! Thank you to everyone who bought Burn and everyone who has supported me over the last three years.’

Elsewhere in the singles charts, Arctic Monkeys are new at number eight with their latest single, Why’d You Call Me When You’re High?.

The track is taken from the band’s much talked of new album, AM, which is released next month.
