Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud has made chart history by becoming the first single to spend an entire year in the top 40 of the official singles chart.

Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud has made chart history by becoming the first single to spend an entire year in the top 40 of the official singles chart.

According to the Official Charts Company, Thinking Out Loud has enjoyed 52 consecutive weeks in the top 40 after finishing at number 28 this latest week.

The song has been one of Ed Sheeran’s most successful, enjoying a combined sales and streams total of 1.65m to date. It’s the 26th best selling track of the decade so far.

Thinking Out Loud also holds the record for the longest climb ever to number one after taking 19 weeks last year.

Ed Sheeran’s latest album X has also spent 52 weeks on the British charts.

The album has sold over 2.2m copies in the UK, spending 12 weeks at the top of the official album charts.
