Dame Cleo Laine will receive the PPL Lifetime Achievement Award at the Jazz FM Awards, it has been announced.
The esteemed British singer has spent decades at the forefront of the British jazz scene alongside her late husband, saxophonist John Dankworth.
The Grammy-award winner is the only female artist to have been nominated for a Grammy in the jazz, classical and pop categories and has released more than 100 albums, working with the likes of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Ray Charles.
Known for her almost-four-octave vocal range and scat singing, Laine marked her 80th birthday in 2007 with a series of special concerts in Britain, including an appearance with the John Dankworth Sextet.
Laine will be honoured at the ceremony, which takes place at Shoreditch Town Hall on International Jazz Day on 30 April.
The Jazz FM Awards are now in their fifth year and celebrate and recognize the best emerging new artists, contemporary jazz icons and established stars from across the worlds of jazz, soul and blues.
