Nicola Benedetti, Alison Balsom and Amy Dickson are among the musicians and songwriters nominated at this year’s Classic BRIT Awards.
The former, who has now received her tenth Classic BRIT nomination, will battle it out with Alison and Joyce DiDonato to retain her crown as female artist of the year.
Elsewhere, Nicola will compete with Friar Alessandro and Katherine Jenkins for the accolade of best album of the year.
The likes of Daniel Barenboim, the conductor who presided over Wagner’s Ring Cycle at the recent BBC Proms, Chinese pianist Lang Lang, and acclaimed tenor Jonas Kaufmann are all in the running for best male.
As previously announced, film composer Hans Zimmer will receive an outstanding contribution to music award.
Dickon Stainer, president of Decca Records and Barry McCann, Avie Records Director, co-chairmen of the Classic BRIT Awards committee, said: ‘This year’s Classic BRIT Awards will be a celebration of magnificent performances, virtuoso playing and global brilliance. We are proud that the Classic BRIT Awards, as the only televised classical awards show, continues to bring these very special performers and talent to a wider audience.’
The Classic BRIT Awards will take place on 2 October 2013 at the Royal Albert Hall and hosted for the sixth consecutive year by Myleene Klass.
