Chris Watson, former member of Cabaret Voltaire and wildlife sound recordist, is launching a new project to create a sound map of Sheffield.

As reported by FACT magazine, the founding member of the seminal post punk act will transform Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery to create a sound map of the city called Inside the Circle of the Fire.

Audio is expected to include all aspects of Sheffield’s geography from the football grounds of Sheffield United and Wednesday at Bramall Lane and Hillsborough to the River Don which runs through the city.

As well as using his own recordings of the region, Chris is also calling on members of the public to submit their sounds.

According to the gallery, ‘any sounds are acceptable, as long as it’s something that you feel is unique to your experience of the city’.

Audio can be recorded on any form of equipment and needs to be uploaded to the Museums Sheffield SoundCloud.

Find out more information on the project and how to submit audio pieces via the Millenium Gallery website.

As well helping found Cabaret Voltaire, Watson has built a career as one of the world's leading recorders of wildlife and natural phenomena.
