The Rolling Stones have appointed BMG to manage the rights to their music publishing catalogue.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have hired the firm to look after musical interests dating back to the start of their career.

From 1 July, BMG will take on responsibility for managing publishing on all songs written by Mick and Keith since 1983.

The deal also covers Jagger and Richards's shares of their pre-1983 copyrights represented by ABKCO (1963-1971) and EMI Music Publishing (1971-1983).

According to BMG, this is the first time the Stones have appointed an outside publisher since 1963.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards said: ‘We look forward to a fresh and fruitful long-term business relationship with all the team at BMG.’

Alexi Cory-Smith, BMG Chrysalis senior vice-president, said: ‘Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are among the greatest songwriters in rock ‘n’ roll history. It’s a huge honour that they have chosen us to represent their interests. Beginning July 1, we will be working alongside all of our offices around the world to give them the very best BMG can offer.’

The deal will cover albums such as Dirty Work (1986), Steel Wheels (1989), Voodoo Lounge (1994), Bridges To Babylon (1997) and A Bigger Bang (2005).

It also marks the 50th anniversary since the band released their first single in 1963.

The Rolling Stones will be performing at this weekend’s Glastonbury Festival as headliners on Saturday (29 June). Read the full line up.
