The BBC has unveiled BBC Playlister, a new digital music service in collaboration with YouTube, Spotify and Deezer.

Music lovers will be able to use the platform to create personal online playlists from the music they hear on the BBC, then export their list to a streaming service partner to listen to the music.

Playlister, which will launch in the next few days on PC and mobile, will enable listeners to create personal lists via tagging songs they hear. It will also allow them to discover recommended tracks from specific DJs and shows.

Tony Hall, BBC director-general, said: ‘BBC Playlister is a wonderful innovation from the BBC that has been designed purely with audience needs in mind.

‘We have a proud musical heritage that dates back to the very beginning of the BBC's history and over the years we have found many new ways of bringing fantastic music to our viewers and listeners. Working with partners such as Spotify, YouTube and Deezer, we will once again transform our audiences' relationship with music and the BBC.’

Playlister will launch in partnership with the three services but more platforms are expected to collaborate with the broadcaster in the future.

The new service was unveiled by Tony Hall during a speech in which he outlined his vision for the future of the BBC.

An updated BBC iPlayer and an increased investment in arts programming are part of his new strategy.
