The BBC is to broadcast more live music as part of new plans to increase arts programming across its channels.

According to the BBC, renewed investment in the arts will see funding for this content increase by 20 percent.

A new arts brand called BBC Arts at… is aimed at showcasing more live music at festivals and events as well as more performances from theatre and other arts events from across the country.

The Space, the experimental digital arts service developed by Arts Council England and the BBC, is also to be re-launched in spring 2014 as part of the new investment.

Tony Hall, BBC director-general, said: ‘Arts programming sits right at the heart of the BBC and is a vital part of who we are.

‘But I want us to be much more ambitious. We need to showcase more of the incredible talent that this country has to offer to the widest possible audiences. It is our privilege and our responsibility to do this.’

The new plans, which also include new partnerships with London's British Museum, the Tate and the Manchester International Festival, are expected to be unveiled in a speech this week outlining the director-general’s vision for the organisation.
