Director general Lord Tony Hall said in an interview with the Financial Times that he was looking for a person to take up the role who can ‘help build relationships with the arts and artists on TV radio and online, and be a best friend to channel controllers’.

Lord Hall, who took over the director general role in March 2013, went on to say that the corporation has underplayed its strengths in music and the arts.

It is hoped the new role will bring more music programming to mainstream audiences and will result in increased visibility for top level artists, musicians and performers across its main media platforms.

In October, Lord Hall said the organisation would increase arts coverage funding by 20 percent ad would make room for more live music across the network.
