They have been joined by We Were Evergreen, Arrows of Love, Tropics, Matt Woods, Jessica Agombar, Night Works and The Thickens, who will each receive between £5,000 and £15,000 to help advance their careers.
These artists join a growing list of hotly-tipped new talent to have received Momentum Music Fund support, including Years & Years and All We Are – two bands who have gone on to achieve real breakthroughs.
PRS for Music Foundation, Arts Council England (ACE) and Deezer are behind the innovative scheme, which has been running since 2013.
This latest round of support follows ACE’s announcement to increase funding available for Momentum beyond its initial two year pilot, in order to better meet the needs of artists working in independent music.
Althea Efunshile, ACE acting chief executive, said: ‘The Arts Council is proud to continue its support of the Momentum Music Fund as it provides well-needed funding for emerging talent, and makes a real difference in helping the each of the brilliant artists involved reach the next stage of their careers.’
Vanessa Reed, executive director of PRS for Music Foundation, added: ‘It’s great to see that the first artists receiving Momentum funding in 2015 are again of such a high caliber following another competitive round. We’re looking forward to tracking the results of this pioneering fund over the next year and to building on our unique partnership with Arts Council England and Deezer.’
The next deadline for applications to the Momentum Music fund is 10 February 2015 via the PRS for Music Foundation website: www.prsformusicfoundation.com/Funding/Momentum-Music-Fund
