Grunge-pop duo Honeyblood and angry Bristol punks Idles performed to an audience of local businesses, fellow artists, and music industry guests at PRS for Music’s Streatham office last night for the latest PRS Presents event.
PRS for Music, which represents more than 125,000 songwriters, producers, composers and music publishers in the UK and across the globe, began hosting PRS Presents in 2015 to showcase the wealth of fantastic talent represented by the membership organisation.
Self-proclaimed ‘angry band’ Idles opened the night, fresh from supporting Foo Fighters at The O2 arena in London just a week before. One of the highlights of the night was their raucous performance of Divide & Conquer, a critique of budget cuts to the NHS and the first track to be taken from debut album Brutalism, released earlier this year. The band were pushed into the spotlight when they performed on the BBC Introducing & PRS Foundation stage at SXSW in Texas after receiving funding from PRS Foundation.
Headliners Honeyblood released their fiery second album, Babes Never Die, at the end of 2016 to critical acclaim, including a spot on the shortlist for Scottish Album of the Year. They brought their ‘90s-influenced ‘crunch-pop’ to an intimate setting last night, in a space just a fraction of the size of the venues they will fill when on tour later this year, including their biggest Scotland show to date at Glasgow’s ABC (capacity: 1,300).
Honeyblood are not the only award-nominated act to have graced the PRS Presents stage; previous events have featured, amongst others, BRITs Critics’ Choice winner Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Streatham’s own Mercury Prize-nominated singer Ghostpoet, Honne, and Marika Hackman, while a special PRS Presents: Grime, saw Lady Leshurr, South East London's own Elf Kid and D Double E comprise an exciting line-up.
Our PRS Presents events give us the opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic work our members are producing and we’d like to thank Honeyblood and Idles for doing just that last night. It’s also a great space for people – whether they work in the music business or use music in their business – to find out more about PRS for Music and how our licence fees contribute to the creation of such great new music.
