PRS for Music Announces Britain’s Hardest Working Bands

JLS and Olly Murs steal the title from Peter Andre

JLS and Olly Murs have jointly been crowned the most performed artists to headline at MAJOR VENUES for 2011 by PRS for Music.

PRS for Music, the organisation which collects royalties on behalf of its songwriter, composer and publisher members has released its annual series of charts on the hardest working performers in 2011 categorised by venue type.

Both JLS and Olly Murs performed a total of 29 major venues each.

Peter Andre claimed the title in 2010 clinching it from previous holders Status Quo, but who has dropped out of the top 10 this year but is set for a large 2012 tour all over the UK.

It's a real honour to be receiving this award from PRS For Music. The last two years have been incredible for me - I've achieved so much and it's great to be recognised for all the work I've put in. Thanks to everyone who's come to see me play live - there's lots more to come!

This is a great achievement and really goes to show how hard we have been working this year. It’s an honour to be awarded this by PRS for Music and we are looking forward to what 2012 will bring!

JLS

Both JLS and Olly Murs began their careers as contestants on the UK reality show X Factor, JLS featuring in the fifth series and Olly Murs in the sixth. Unfortunately, neither of the acts won but that hasn’t seemed to deter their success since the end of the show.

JLS signed to Epic Records straight after the end of the show, releasing ‘Beat Again’ in July 2009 going straight in at #1, their debut album was released in November of the same year, again, going straight into #1 in the charts. Since then JLS has gone from strength to strength, and releases their third studio album in November with another UK tour set for 2012.

Olly Murs, signed jointly with Epic Records and Syco in February 2010, and successfully managed to beat Katy Perry to the #1 spot with ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’ in August. Since then he has embarked on a UK tour and has just released his second album called ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’.

Performing live and going on tour are fundamental to any artist and is a great way for them to engage with their fans. Congratulations to both JLS and Olly Murs and all the songwriters who they have worked with to create the music that so many people are enjoying.
