Four tips for keeping your online PRS account secure

Here’s what you can do to stay cyber-safe.

Your online account is the best way to stay on top of your PRS membership. But it’s important to prevent this important personal information from getting into the wrong hands.

Follow these four simple tips to help keep your account secure:

  1. Make sure your password for your online PRS account is unique and that you’re not using the same password for any of your other accounts. One good tip to make your password difficult to crack is by combining three random words. This will easily create a password which is strong enough to keep hackers out, but easy enough for you to remember.

  2. Don’t share your log in details with anyone else. You can add users to your account if your team  needs access — you can do this visiting the ‘My Account’ section on the homepage. Click ‘manage users’ and ‘add user’, then enter their full name, email address and job description. Once submitted, the new user will then receive a confirmation email. You can also set account permissions for each user you add individually.

  3. Beware of phishing emails: don’t click on any suspicious links asking for your account credentials or unusual requests surrounding royalty payments or account changes. If you do receive anything that makes you feel unsure, please let us know by emailing CyberAlerts@prsformusic.com

  4. If you’re accessing your online account in public areas like a café or on public transport, lock your laptop or device if you need to step away from it at any point.

If you receive any communications claiming to be from PRS for Music which don’t feel right, contact CyberAlerts@prsformusic.com immediately for more help.
