YouTube has launched a new feature providing users with greater guidance around the use of music and copyright.
The YouTube Audio Library is aimed at providing video uploaders with more information about copyright music and whether their video and accompanying music will be subject to any restrictions.
YouTube enables users to search its catalogue of music by genre, mood, instrument and duration to find the appropriate music for their video.
In a blog post, Tim Grow, YouTube product manager, said: ‘Starting today, you can search the YouTube Audio Library to determine how using a particular track in your video will affect it on YouTube, specifically if it will stay live on YouTube or if any restrictions apply.’
'Until now there was no way to know what would happen if you used a specific track until after you hit upload,' he explained.
This new initiative follows the previous implementation of the YouTube Content ID, a feature aimed at providing rightsholders with funds from the use of their music on the service.
Earlier this year, YouTube announced the launch of its Music Key service, a new streaming platform to rival the likes of Spotify and Rdio.
