YouTube creators are gaining a host of new revenue-generating features outside of the traditional advertising tools already available.

Included in the list of new tools to be rolled out are: channel memberships, merchandising, marketing partnerships via FameBit and the launch of ‘Premiers’,  a middle ground between live streaming and pre-recorded video.

The new features were announced at VidCon conference in Anaheim, California, this week and could offer a wider opportunity for artists and songwriters to earn money through the platform.

Among these new features is the inclusion of direct merchandising, which will allow users to sell products directly to viewers via Teespring, a service which has recently partnered with YouTube.

Another  feature announced that holds a lot of potential for artists is ‘Premiers’ – which allows users to create specific landing pages for videos that can be promoted ahead of a videos release.

This page will allow users to link directly to videos before they are made live and will contain extra features like Live Chat, which allows creators to engage with their fans in the build up a video’s release.
