Synth pop trio Years & Years have been named as winners of the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA) 2016.
The act follows other winners of the prize including Ireland’s SOAK and Norways’s Aurora. A total of ten artists will be chosen to receive the prize.
According to organisers, the winners are selected using data from Nielsen Music Control research, the European Broadcasting Union, EBU radio stations, and from festivals participating in the European Talent Exchange Programme.
Years & Years have enjoyed a meteoric rise over the last 12 months after they were announced as winners of the BBC’s Sound of 2015 prize.
After signing with Polydor, Years & Years released their number one single King in February. Their debut album, Communion, followed in July and topped the charts.
The EBBAs are about breaking down borders and recognising emerging European rock, pop and dance artists who achieved success in other countries than their own.
