X-Factor winner James Arthur will hit the top spot of the charts with the fastest selling single of 2012, new figures predict.
According to Official Charts Data, Arthur’s single Impossible may enjoy one of the biggest opening weeks for any of the reality show winners.
To date, the single has clocked up sales of 255,000, which already beats the previous biggest opening week for a UK single in 2012 - Cheryl’s Call My Name sold 152,000 in its first week back in June.
Arthur’s release has already surpassed opening week sales for some previous X Factor winners including last year’s Cannonball from Little Mix. The girl group's debut sold 210,000.
If his sales continue apace, he could join the elite club of X Factor winners to sell more than 500,000 in their first week - 2006’s A Moment Like This by Leona Lewis (571,000), 2008’s Hallelujah by Alexandra Burke (576,000) and 2005’s That’s My Goal by Shayne Ward (742,000).
Impossible was released on Sunday evening after the singer was crowned this year’s X Factor winner - the release has been predominantly available as a digital download but is now available as a CD single.
Elsewhere the album charts is expected to have a new number one this weekend as Bruno Mars reaches the top spot.
His second album, Unorthodox Jukebox, is currently outselling closest rival Michael Buble by 22,000 copies.
