Wysing Arts Centre launches new record label Wysing Polyphonic at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London this week.
The event, on 23 March, will be marked with a live performance by Ectopia, the first music project to release on the label.
As part of the initiative, Wysing Arts Centre will also build a recording studio at its centre, near Cambridge, in the summer of 2017.
This will allow it to commission new works for recording and broadcasting, as well as being a resource for artists and musicians.
Also this year, the centre will explore the theme of ‘many voices’ within an over-arching programme titled Wysing Polyphonic.
Taking the record label’s namesake, the programme encompasses residencies, exhibitions, events, a music festival, study weeks and days.
Wysing will work with artists to explore a diversity of contexts and positions to help better understand the role of art, artists, and arts organisations at this moment of global political change.
Donna Lynas, Wysing director, said: ‘We are excited to be collaborating with the ICA on the launch of our new imprint Wysing Polyphonic.
‘The label is a natural extension of our annual music festival and it was inspired by hearing Ectopia play at the festival in 2015 and wanting to put make their music available to a wide audience. We are looking forward to more releases by the artists and musicians we work with.’
xname, SIREN Collective and N-Prolenta will also play at the ICA event on 23 March. For more info, please see https://www.ica.art/whats-on/ica-music-wysing-polyphonic-record-launch
