The Peter Whittingham Jazz Awards is now open for entries offering £5,000 for a jazz musician or group towards a creative project.
This is the 26th anniversary of the initiative with potential projects including a range of activity such as mentoring, collaboration, touring, showcasing, recording or promotion.
Previously, the prize has been awarded to some of today’s leading jazz musicians including Help Musicians UK ambassador Soweto Kinch, Scott Stroman, Errollyn Wallen MBE, Dave O’Higgins, Gwilym Simcock, Empirical, Led Bib and Roller Trio.
To apply for this year’s Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, you can download our online application form here. Please make sure you have read the guidelines carefully before submitting your application. Please ask your referee to complete the separate reference form which can be found here.
The deadline for applications is Friday 11 November at 5pm. You will be informed within two weeks whether you have been selected to attend an audition. Auditions will take place on Friday 9 December at Premises Studios in Hackney.
The award was set up to honour Peter Whittingham, an expert in survival medicine and a pianist who enjoyed the music of Gershwin, Porter, Sondheim, Bernstein, Shearing and Peterson.
