Julie Adenuga, a DJ from Rinse FM, has launched a petition calling for a statue of grime star Wiley to be erected in London’s East End.

The DJ is calling on fans of the chart-topping grime musician to petition Tower Hamlets council to set up a statue in Mile End Park on Roman Road.

At the time of writing, the petition has more than 2,000 names signed up in support.

The petition states: ‘Richard Cowie (aka Wiley) has undoubtedly inspired an entire generation. A man who has put his heart and soul into what he believes in and consistently shows passion and perseverance.

‘Making this happen won't be strenuous or daunting - it will be a joyous experience for all, with the community pulling together from all over London and its surrounding cities. Who knows? This may be the start of something amazing! With people all over the UK paying homage to the others who have motivated generations.’

Wiley has courted some controversy over the summer after performing a curtailed 15 minute set at Cumbria’s Cockrock festival and not showing for his scheduled set at Glastonbury.
