Warner Music is the first major record company to sign a licensing deal with Mixcloud, covering the label’s international roster of artists and recordings.
The UK-based, ad-supported streaming platform is well-used among the dance music community and is known for hosting DJ mixes and long-form radio shows from the likes of Soho Radio.
With a catalogue spanning more than 12 million on-demand shows and mixes, it attracts around 17 million users each month.
The service is currently licensed by PRS for Music and PPL, plus US collecting societies ASCAP and BMI.
The agreement with Warners is the first direct deal between the platform and a label, and precedes its plans to launch a subscription service.
Nico Perez, Mixcloud co-founder and content director, said in a statement: ‘Since the beginning, we have worked with rightsholders to both monetise long-form audio and champion the importance of curation in the streaming industry.
‘As we embark on direct licensing relationships with the major labels, we are committed to doing what is best for artists, curators, music fans, and the industry.'
Ole Obermann, executive vice president of business development and chief digital officer at Warner Music Group, added: ‘As streaming opens up access to a vast universe of music, we are seeing a complimentary rise in fans' engagement with curated experiences, such as playlists, on-demand radio shows and DJ sets.
‘As we see that user base expand, this partnership will unlock new commercial value for our artists and their music,’ he added.
