UK sales of vinyl albums this year have already exceeded 2013’s total and are expected to pass 1m, according to new Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) analysis.

Sales of vinyl albums now total 844,122 compared with 2013’s total of 829,243 - ERA’s forecast predicts that with three months of the year still to go, total vinyl sales will be well over one million by the end of 2014.

Kim Bayley, ERA director general, said: ‘This is an extraordinary turnaround. Independent retailers were first to identify the untapped potential for vinyl and made it the focus of Record Store Day.

‘With record labels now making more vinyl available, this trend shows no sign of abating.’

Despite being released last year, the biggest-selling vinyl album of 2014 to date is AM by Arctic Monkeys.

The top ten list of best selling vinyl albums is below;

Arctic Monkeys - AM
Jack White – Lazaretto
