PRS for Music member Van Morrison has been named as the recipient of the Americana Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting 2017.

The Americana Music Association (AMA) has chosen the artist as the winner of the prize.

He will receive the award at the Americana Honours and Awards show on 13 September 2017, at a ceremony at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee and Morrison is due to attend with his daughter, Shana Morrison.

The duo are expected to sing together during the evening while he will also perform the following night, 14 September, at Nashville's Ascend Amphitheatre, his first show in the city in eight years.

Jed Hilly, AMA executive director said: 'We are humbled and couldn't be more excited to honour Van Morrison at our premier event of the year and are thrilled to present Mr Morrison at Ascend Ampitheatre.

'Mr Morrison has created a catalogue of music that has served as the soundtrack for our lives.'

In February, at the equivalent British event, the UK Americana Awards, Van Morrison was honoured for the bestselling UK Americana Album of 2016 with Keep Me Singing.

Van Morrison will perform on 15 June at the Hampton Court Palace, while on 13 and 14 August, he is due to play two highly-anticipated gigs at the Slieve Donard in Newcastle in his native Northern Ireland.
