Music charity Urban Development is one of three organisations to receive funding from Art Council England’s (ACE) Ambition for Excellence initiative.
The £35.2m programme is aimed at stimulating and supporting ambition, talent and excellence across the arts sector in England.
Urban Development is based in Stratford and will receive £350,000 to help set up a new national youth music organisation and centre of excellence in commercial and urban music.
According to the organisation, this new initiative will be delivered across the country in various centres across the country including Bristol, Derby, Newham and Manchester.
Pamela McCormick, Urban Development founder and director, said: 'We are delighted to receive the support of ACE with this ambitious project to invest in grassroots talent.
‘We believe that inner city working class young people deserve an opportunity for structured industry-relevant development towards careers in music and the creative industries. It shouldn't be just the preserve of the lucky, or privileged, few.'
Other organisations to benefit from this first round of funding include the Tricycle Theatre and Bristol-based contemporary art producers Situations.
