UK radio audiences have reached an all-time high with 49.7 million listeners per week, new figures from RAJAR have revealed.
The statistics, which are published every quarter, showed that BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 4 and the BBC Asian Network saw their highest ever listener figures.
BBC 6 Music saw almost 2.3 million listeners, representing year-on-year growth of 10 percent.
According to the statistics, this is up from a previous record 2.24 million seen in the last quarter and 2.06 million from last year.
Helen Boaden, BBC Radio director, said: ‘BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 6 Music and the Asian Network are brilliant and unique. It's fantastic that audiences across the country are finding these stations in record numbers to enjoy as part of their daily lives.
‘The overall radio industry in the UK is in incredibly rude health. I’m delighted that in today’s digital world, audiences continue to appreciate the power of radio - its ability to provide daily companionship and entertainment, to share stories and to find and curate the best music with such a deep understanding of different audiences across the UK. Radio is a vital part of the UK's media ecology and we should all celebrate that.’
Further findings revealed that on average, listeners are tuning in for an extra 30 minutes of live radio every week, with figures climbing from 21 hours, to 21.5 hours.
As many as 59 percent of Brits tune into digital radio weekly, up from 57 percent in May.
