Following the Competitions and Markets Authority’s (CMA) decision to take further legal action against secondary ticketing site Viagogo, UK Music has called on Google to do its part.

UK Music’s Michael Dugher has prompted Google to support the CMA’s action and further help music fans by preventing Viagogo from appearing at the top of its search engine results.

The CMA recently announced that is moving forward with legal proceedings against Viagogo following the company’s failure to overhaul it’s practices in line with UK consumer protection law.

Viagogo was served a court order in November 2018 with a 17 January deadline, and while the CMA concedes that positive changes have been made, they believe that they’re not enough to comply fully and will ask a court to find the company in contempt of court.

Michael Dugher, Chief Executive, UK Music, says: ‘News that the CMA is proceeding with legal action against Viagogo is welcome and a timely reminder that music fans should avoid getting tickets from this website which continues to rip off music fans.

‘Equally, it’s high time Google stopped putting Viagogo at the top of their search engine when customers are looking for tickets, when they could instead be directed towards legitimate, lower primary ticket sales.

‘UK Music, the FanFair Alliance and cross-party MPs have long campaigned for action against exploitative secondary ticketing providers.

‘We urge the courts to join us and say no to Viagogo.’
