UK Music has today launched its Workforce Diversity Survey, which tracks progress to boost diversity and inclusion in the UK’s music industry.
Led by UK Music’s diversity taskforce, the survey is focussed on those who work behind the scenes in the industry rather than performers. It collates data from across the music business, including from publishers, licensing companies, record labels, management agencies, studios and the live music sector.
Launched in 2016, the Workforce Diversity Survey takes place every two years and gives the music industry, Government and other stakeholders a critical insight into diversity and inclusion across the business. The findings indicate where improvements are needed, while also highlighting the areas where positive change is already under way. UK Music will publish the results of the 2022 survey later this year as part of a report.
In order to get the most accurate results, all those working behind the scenes in the music industry are strongly encouraged to fill out the survey. Reporting closes on Monday 8 August.
UK Music chief executive Jamie Njoku-Goodwin says: ‘It’s vital that we track the diversity of those that work behind the scenes in our industry. We need this data so we can identify where we are doing well, and where we could improve.
‘We only get quality information if enough people fill out the survey – so I urge everyone who cares about diversity and inclusion in our industry to take part and encourage your work colleagues to as well.’
Ammo Talwar, UK Music Diversity Taskforce chair, says: ‘We cannot shy away from the backdrop of change needed in the music industry around diversity and inclusion. UK Music’s Workforce Diversity survey is the leading light around collection of data and actions that are accountable and measured yearly. We urge you to become part of the solution and fill in the survey – your voice counts.’
