Sam Smith, Clean Bandit and Route 94 are among the top selling singles artists of 2014 so far, according to Official Charts Company data.
While Pharrell Williams and his ubiquitous Happy continues to lead the way as the year’s biggest song, British songwriters have also continued to mine a rich seam of success, particularly those straddling the axis of dance/pop.
Classical-pop quartet Clean Bandit have been one of 2014's biggest success stories with their single Rather Be featuring Jess Glynne the second highest seller. The Cambridge-based group shifted 163,000 copies of the song during its first week, making it the biggest weekly seller for a January number one since Spaceman by Babylon Zoo back in 1996. Current sales for the single now stand at 1.1m copies.
Soul singer Sam Smith, who has worked with Disclosure, Naughty Boy and most recently Mary J Blige, had the seventh biggest seller with Stay With Me.
Sam has enjoyed a golden year for chart success with his album, In the Lonely Hour, becoming the fastest selling debut of 2014 when it was released back in June.
The record also made US chart history, becoming the best-selling week of any UK male singer after moving 166,000 copies.
Route 94's My Love, also featuring Jess Glynne, was eighth in the chart.
