UK songwriter Atticus Ross and Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor (pictured) have scooped an Oscar for their soundtrack to the film The Social Network.
The pair beat Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech), Danny Elfman (Alice In Wonderland) and A R Rahman (127 Hours) to pick up the Best Original Score prize in Los Angeles last night.
In his acceptance speech Reznor said: ‘Wow, is this really happening? When we finished work on The Social Network, we were very proud of our work and happy to just be involved in this film, and to be standing up here in this company is humbling and flattering beyond words.’
The electronic score is Reznor’s first venture into the movie world, while Ross composed the score to the Hughes Brothers’ 2010 movie The Book Of Eli.
Ross has produced and programmed four Nine Inch Nails albums to date, and the pair has recently formed a new band called How To Destroy Angles, with Reznor’s wife Mariqueen Maandig.
Meanwhile, songwriting veteran Randy Newman picked up the Best Song Oscar for We Belong Together from Toy Story 3 last night.
