U2’s Songs of Innocence, the band’s new LP gifted to Apple iTunes customers, has been accessed by 33m users in the seven days since release.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice-president of Internet Software and Services, announced the figure. This number equates to access via across iTunes, iCloud, iTunes Radio, or Beats on any device.

The eleven song LP was made available to 500 million iTunes account holders before it is released via Island in October. The record is the follow up to 2009’s No Line on the Horizon.

Since its release, some users have complained about being difficulties in removing the music from iTunes. Apple has subsequently posted a new tool along with instructions enabling users to remove the LP from their accounts.

Apple and U2 announced the album during last week’s special media event that introduced the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.

According to Entertainment Retailers Association, the giveaway resulted in sales of just 6,047 additional copies of their 19-album back catalogue in the UK last week.
