Matthew James Cogley, singer, songwriter and guitarist with Preston rock band Failsafe, has sadly passed away.

The 30 year old artist is believed to have died suddenly during the early hours of New Year’s Day (1 January).

Failsafe formed in 2005 and released three albums. They recorded sessions for the BBC and toured extensively across the UK and the US, including performing at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

The rock band also made a live appearance during the third series of hit Channel 4 comedy The Inbetweeners.

Matthew’s brother Martin confirmed the tragic news via Facebook. He wrote: ‘We will miss him so much - beyond words can express - and we know that hundreds of other people in Chorley, around the country and across the world will feel the same way.’

‘Matthew was such a talented musician and songwriter. His music with band-mates Failsafe and his solo work was enjoyed by thousands of people.’
