Tracey Thorn will receive the coveted Artists’ Artist Award at the Artist & Manager Awards (A&MA's) 2017, the Featured Artist Coalition (FAC) and Music Managers Forum (MMF) have announced.

Voted for by fellow artists in the FAC and peers, the award will be presented to the Marine Girls and Everything But The Girl co-founder at the ceremony on 14 November.

Speaking about receiving the award, Thorn said: 'I am so flattered', adding: 'I haven’t won anything since 1984, when City Limits magazine gave me a small garden gnome for being the Best Female Singer. So this is a sharp thrill indeed, and I thank everyone involved.'

FAC chief executive Lucie Caswell said: 'A quietly ubiquitous voice in British music over recent decades, few other artists have excelled, inspired and collaborated as widely as Tracey has.

'She is a fantastic role model for all creatives and as such, the FAC is proud to honour this legendary artistic voice.'

Best known as one half of Everything but the Girl, Thorn has had 12 top 40 singles in the UK and seven top 20 albums. The duo's 1994 club-pop crossover Missing was a defining track of its era and became a global hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Top 100.

She has also collaborated with the likes of The Style Council, Massive Attack and John Grant, while in recent years she has emerged as an acclaimed author.

Her 2013 autobiography Bedsit Disco Queen: How I Grew Up & Tried To Be A Popstar became a bestseller and received praise for its charm and wit.

Thorn currently writes a fortnightly column for the New Statesman and is preparing to release a new solo album – her first in five years.

Recognising 'the extraordinary long-term creative and innovative musical output of an individual or group', the Artists' Artist award has previously been given to Joan Armatrading, Placebo, Robbie Williams and Massive Attack.
