Tom Gortler has been named as the winner of the Academy of Contemporary Music’s (ACM) BASCA Scholarship.
The emerging songwriter was chosen from three finalists after performing in front of industry judges at the annual BASCA Summer Party.
Runners up included students Anya Lang and Autumn Caveney who both performed a song of their own on the evening.
As winner, Tom will now have his entire course fees funded to enable him to complete the Songwriting Artist Development degree at ACM.
Commenting, Tom said: ‘It feels amazing, firstly I want to say well done to the other two contestants Anya and Autumn, they did amazingly. I’m over the moon to be even considered, just getting to the final three was enough for me let alone win it so thank you so much to the judges, ACM and everyone from BASCA for putting it on.’
BASCA’s Rita Campbell said: ‘The reason we chose Tom’s song was because it was actually the most formulated song, it was so catchy - it was like an earworm! They were all great songs, all three of them were great songs but his song did have the edge, so it got my vote and it was a really great evening.’
ACM first offered the BASCA Scholarship in 2015 when talented student Ivan Proctor was chosen as the first ever recipient.
