Tinnitus Awareness Week is back in 2016 celebrating its tenth anniversary and calling on musicians and the public to do more to protect their hearing.

Running 8-14 February, the initiative, run by the British Tinnitus Association (BTA), is supported by a number of organisations including songwriter Mark Ronson and charity Help Musicians UK.

According to the organisers, tinnitus can be a difficult condition, especially for musicians whose careers can be compromised by the condition.

The BTA’s theme for the week is Prevention while Mark Ronson has recently been appointed ambassador for Plug ‘Em, a new campaign aimed at encouraging musicians and gig goers to wear earplugs when exposed to loud music.

Nigel Hamilton, Help Musicians UK’s director of care and wellbeing said: ‘Our 2015 survey showed that musicians are four times more likely to suffer hearing damage than the general population.

‘We know hearing is one of the most important tools for musicians and we’re keen to get on board with Tinnitus Awareness Week to help get people talking.’
