The blogosphere whipped itself up into a storm yesterday afternoon when The xx released a stream of new track, Angels, ahead of sophomore album Coexist.
The first new music we've heard from the band since 2010, Angels is an ode to love. With a delicate vocal from Romy and the stripped back, simple signature sound that The xx is known the world over for, it is a promising sign that a brilliant second album is on its way.
The xx's debut album xx was met by critical acclaim, receiving excellent reviews from magazines and blogs. It was also immensely popular with television producers, featuring heavily during the general election. It was a slow burner that eventually turned platinum and climbed to number three in Album Chart.
As the only new music we will hear from The xx until Coexist's 10 September release date, it will be interesting to see if Angels becomes the soundtrack to the London 2012 television coverage.
