The Hive, an installation highlighting the plight of the bee and featuring a soundtrack by former Spiritualized members, is coming to London’s Kew Gardens.
From June 2016, the artist Wolfgang Buttress will bring The Hive, an immersive, multi-sensory exhibition, to Kew after exhibiting it at last year’s Milan Expo.
Inspired by scientific research into the health of bees, the piece features a soundtrack recorded by Kev Bales and Tony Foster, a pair known for collaborating with Spiritualized, Julian Cope and Dave Gahan.
The recordings are to be released as an LP One and feature a collection of musicians improvising in the key of D along to a live audio feed of beehive sounds.
Other musicians on the record include Spiritualised's Jason Pierce, Youth, cellist Deidre Bencsik, vocalist Camille Buttress and Amiina (the string section regularly used by Sigur Ros).
Commenting on the exhibition, Richard Deverell, director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, said: ‘We are truly delighted to announce The Hive’s move to Kew, both for its magnificent aesthetic appeal and for the resonance it has with our work - I can think of no better home for this remarkable marriage of architecture and science.’
One will be released on Caught by the River’s in-house record label Rivertones on 12 February.
