BASCA is hosting It All Starts With a Song, a songwriting masterclass with acclaimed artist mentor and music publisher Judy Stakee.
Taking place at the Musicians’ Union office in London on 9 September, the event will see Judy give her top tips and advice for songwriters looking to take the next step in their careers.
Judy Stakee is an acclaimed artist mentor, speaker and author. As senior vice-president of Creative at Warner Chappell Music for 20 years, she signed and developed many of today’s most acclaimed artists including Grammy-award winner Sheryl Crow, Katy Perry and Joy Williams and world-renowned songwriters like John Shanks and Kevin Kadish.
In 2009 Judy became the founder of her own full-service artist development company, The Judy Stakee Company, with an ethos to change lives through storytelling. She recently authored the internationally-successful book The Songwriter’s Survival Guide and leads songwriting retreats around the world.
Commenting on Judy’s career, Sheryl Crow said: ‘We all need help in achieving our dreams, and Judy showed up at the perfect moment, just when I most needed her, all those years ago. In 1989, just after I had finished touring with Michael Jackson, I signed a publishing deal with Judy at Warner Chappell Music. Working with Judy was an extraordinary experience, one that allowed me the freedom to explore and discover my own voice. She was constantly asking me questions about what I wanted and encouraging me to follow my heart.’
The event schedule is below:
Registration/Networking: 3.30pm
Judy Stakee Seminar: 4.30pm
Q&A/Song Critiques 5.30pm
Judy will be critiquing a couple of songs at the event. Songwriters are invited to submit songs (with accompanying lyric sheets) for consideration to info@basca.org.uk.
