British artists including alt-pop ace Suzi Wu, rising rappers AJ Tracey and Yxng Bane (pictured), and jazz wiz Nubya Garcia, are among those selected by PRS Foundation for SXSW 2018.
A total of 36 acts will receive financial assistance via the organisation’s International Showcase Fund, with buzz bands Superorganism, LAPS (Ladies As Pimps), Goat Girl, Catholic Action, Girl Ray and LYLO also on the list.
A number of more established artists have been selected too, including Mercury Prize nominee ESKA, Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes and Nina Nesbitt. See the full list below and tune in to the PRS Foundation-curated playlist.
More artists receiving support for SXSW via the International Showcase Fund and BBC Introducing are expected to be announced over the coming weeks.
It’s the second time PRS Foundation has backed artists from Wales and Scotland, with Spinning Coin, Happy Meals and The Spook School representing Scotland last year, and Meilyr Jones, The Sandinistas and Chain of Flowers showing for Wales.
The International Showcase Fund is run by the Foundation in partnership with Department for International Trade, Arts Council England, British Underground, Musicians' Union and more recently Creative Scotland, PPL, Wales Arts International and PledgeMusic.
It offers support for artists to take their first steps into international territories by enabling them to perform at key showcasing festivals and conferences around the world.
SXSW runs from 12 to 18 March 2018, attracting thousands of artists and music industry executives from all corners of the globe.
M will be on the ground with some of the best artists representing for Britain, so keep your eyes on our website and socials from now until the festival for more info, plus features and interviews with some of our favourite acts making the trip.
