Composition student Lillie Harris has won the opportunity to have her music performed at the final concerts of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s (RSNO) 2016 season.
The 22 year-old will have her 10-minute work remiscipate performed at the RSNO’s 125th anniversary closing concerts on 27 and 28 May in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Harris is a fourth year undergraduate composition student at the Royal College of Music, who has previously been commissioned by the Gaudier Ensemble and ShivaNova, and has assisted orchestrators and copyists on scores for recordings.
She is one of five young composers to participate in the inaugural year of the RSNO Composers’ Hub, which provides the opportunity for a group of composers to write for orchestra in a range of different contexts and develop skills and creative relationships.
During the final Composers’ Hub workshop, held at the RSNO Centre this week, the five participants’ works were performed by the orchestra in front of a panel of judges, including composers Brett Dean and Stuart MacRae, RSNO principal bassoon David Hubbard, executive producer Manus Carey and RSNO associate conductor Jean-Claude Picard.
The final concerts of the RSNO’s 2015/16 season will take place at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on 27 May and at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 28 May.
