PRS for Music member Steve Mac has been announced as the winner of the BRIT Awards 2018's Best British Producer, and will receive the award during the ceremony on 21 February.

Mac co-wrote and produced Ed Sheeran's Shape of You which was last year's highest selling UK single and is now Spotify's most streamed track of all time.

As one of the UK’s most successful music producers, he has produced records amassing over 200 million worldwide sales and has worked with former BRIT Awards winners and nominees including Little Mix, Calvin Harris, One Direction and Charlie XCX.

Alongside Shape of You, his 2017 production credits also include a Number 1 single by Clean Bandit, as well as Top Ten singles by P!nk, Rita Ora and Liam Payne.

Speaking about the win, Mac said: 'I feel truly humbled to receive this prestigious award, especially as it’s voted for by my peers who I greatly respect.

'This really is the icing on the cake at the end of such an amazing year, not only for me personally but for British music.'

BRITs chairman and chairman and CEO of Sony Music UK & Ireland, Jason Iley, added: 'I am absolutely delighted for Steve – what a phenomenal year. He has worked with the biggest artists and delivered the biggest songs around the world.

'Steve is an incredibly talented and versatile producer and the most worthy recipient of the Best British Producer Award after the most exceptional hit rate this past year.'

The 38th BRIT Awards take place on 21 February at London's The O2 and will be hosted by Jack Whitehall, with live performances from Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Stormzy, Dua Lipa and more to be announced.
