Saint Etienne’s Bob Stanley has announced details of a new book Yeah Yeah Yeah: The Story of Modern Pop to be published in October.
The book, which will be published by Faber and Faber, examines how pop music has been created and consumed since its inception more than 50 years ago.
It covers the birth of genres such as rock, soul, punk, disco, hip hop, indie, house and techno and a whole range of artists from Billy Fury and Roxy Music to TLC and Britney Spears.
In a press release, Faber said: ‘Bob Stanley's Yeah Yeah Yeah tells the chronological story of the modern pop era, from its beginnings in the fifties with the dawn of the charts, vinyl, and the music press, to pop's digital switchover in the year 2000, from Rock Around the Clock to Crazy In Love.
‘There was constant change, constant development, a constant craving for newness. It was more than just music - it could be your whole life.’
Bob Stanley was a founding member of electro-pop act Saint Etienne but has gone on to enjoy a career as a music journalist working for a wide range of publications.
To help promote the book, Bob will be going on a tour of the UK hosting chats with panels of pop-makers and musicians from each city.
Guests on the tour include Candida Doyle (Pulp), Paul Hanley (The Fall), Stella Grundy (Intastella), Andy McCluskey (OMD), Green Gartside (Scritti Politti), Jayne Casey (Big in Japan, Cream) and artist Jeremy Deller.
