Global streaming platform Spotify has passed the 50 million paid subscriber milestone.
The company, which is available in 60 countries and has a catalogue of more than 30 million tracks, announced the news in a tweet yesterday –
According to The Verge, paid subscriber numbers have jumped by 10 million in six months, from 40 million in September 2016.
Aside from its £9.99 paid plan (or regional equivalent price), Spotify also offers an ad-funded free option. In June last year, the company said that it had reached 100 million registered users, including paying and non-paying users.
By the end of last year, the music industry recorded more than 100 million paying subscribers for premium services from Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music and others.
