Shiva Feshareki (pictured), Arcade Fire’s Richard Reed Parry, the Fidelio Trio and Mary Bevan are among the talent lined up for the 2018 edition of Spitalfields Music Festival.

UK experimental composer Feshareki promises to bring fresh musical perspectives with Unknown, Remembered, an immersive hybrid of opera, theatre and art installation.

The piece interweaves Handel’s operatic scena La Lucrezia with lyrics from seminal Joy Division album, Unknown Pleasures, and Haroon Mirza’s film installation The Last Tape.

Also across the programme, which takes place from 1 to 9 December at various venues across London’s East End, Parry will present a unique performance with The Riot Ensemble utilising the human heartbeat for his piece Heart and Breath.

Elsewhere, soprano Mary Bevan will join lute player Elizabeth Kenny and cellist Joseph Crouch for a recital of Purcell and his Baroque contemporaries, followed by a performance from The Coveryard, a collective of arrangers and multi-instrumentalists led by Josephine Stephenson and Sarah Latto.

The Coveryard’s composition interweaves songs from Manchester rock band The Smiths with new arrangements of Purcell.

The festival is curated by conductor André de Ridder. For more info, and tickets, please see https://www.spitalfieldsmusic.org.uk/announcing-the-2018-spitalfields-music-festival/
