British rock band Spiritualized have used samples from recordings made in space during the seventies by space probes.

The group’s Always Forgetting With You (The Bridge Song) will be released as part of the Lefse Records compilation Space Project on Record Store Day on 19 April.

According to the label, the audio tracks which make up the raw material for the Space Project were recorded by the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 space probes that NASA launched in 1977.

In their press release surrounding the compilation, the label said: ‘The “sounds” recorded by the Voyager probes aren’t sounds in the conventional sense; rather, they are electromagnetic radiation fluctuations in the magnetosphere of the planets, moons and large asteroids the Voyager probes traveled near.’

Beach House, The Antlers and Mutual Benefit feature alongside Spiritualized on the compilation.

The Space Project will be available on vinyl, CD, and as a seven inch box set.
