SoundCloud, the online music platform, has confirmed details of a new content partnership with Sony Music Entertainment (SME).

The agreement creates a range of revenue opportunities on SoundCloud for SME artists as well as those on its affiliated and distributed labels such as The Orchard and RED Distribution.

SME’s labels and artists will gain access to SoundCloud’s promotional tools, analysis and data, providing them with new opportunities to generate revenue and build deeper relationships with their fans.

SoundCloud listeners will gain access to music from SME’s roster of emerging artists and global pop stars, and supports the service’s continued investment in monetisation.

Alexander Ljung, SoundCloud founder and chief executive officer, said: ‘Today is of particular significance to us as a company, as the addition of SME means we now have deals in place with all of the major music labels.

‘With SME now on board, we continue on our journey building a unique platform, empowering our community of more than 18 million artists at every stage of their careers to share their work and connect with their fans, and enabling listeners to discover and be inspired by new music and audio. We are very excited to be working with SME and cannot wait to see what we can achieve together as we continue to transform the future of music online.”

SoundCloud was previously licensed by Warner Music in November 2014 and Universal Music in January this year. It also has a deal with independent labels through Merlin while collection society PRS for Music also licensed SoundCloud in December 2015.
